Kate was an inspiration to the entire club as to the effect that love and patience can have on a dog. She basically ran wild in the streets of Ireland for the first two years of her life, ate what she could find, and served no master. Eventually she was caught and returned to her breeder. Geri was visiting Ireland about that time and fell in love with her, brought her back to the states and began the process of winning her trust. Kate didn't trust people or have any use for them in her life. She soon began to bond with Geri and to trust a couple of people, although she chose what few friends she had very carefully. Kate and Geri formed a bond that ran deep and Kate soon became Geri's partner and an excellent working dog. She was Geri's go to dog for many years, helping around the ranch and trialing.
Kate was a good mother as well and produced several great pups. Many of our club members have and are currently running dogs that are direct decedents of Kate. Also it was her working ability and personality that led Geri to return to Ireland to bring back two more dogs, one for herself and one for another club member. Both are doing quite well and one is expected to have a litter next summer that will produce more of Kate's lines, with several more going to club members.
On the basis of Kate being basically the foundation bitch of the entire club, as well as an excellent working dog and inspiration to all, she is the NMHDA Hall Of Fame Dog for 2013.
